Visualizing Missing Migrants

Over 72 thousands people have died or gone missing on their migration route

From 2014 to February 2025 over 72 thousand people died or went missing on their migration journeys according to the dataset of the missing migrants project by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Each red dot on the maps corresponds to an incident registered by the IOM. Its size is proportional to the number of victims of an incident. It's impossible to see all the many dots as a way to reflect the overwhelming number of victims, their distress and that of their families.

The number of victims worldwide varies yearly, but the Mediterranean region always have the highest number of people dead or missing.
